Slike eksoskjeletter tar sikte p\u00e5 \u00e5 kopiere det ytre skjelettet man finner i insektverdenen, og fungerer ved \u00e5 sitte som en st\u00f8ttende og styrkende ramme rundt armer og bein.Med hydraulikk og robotikk kan et menneske i teorien f\u00e5 like stor l\u00f8ftekraft som f.eks. en gaffeltruck, men med langt st\u00f8rre fleksibilitet.<br \/>\nDet er ingen tilfeldighet at eksoskjelettet utvikles i Japan, der man lenge har forsket p\u00e5 bruk av roboter som erstatning for menneskelig arbeidskraft i et land med raskt fallende befolkning. Teamet bak eksoskjelettet beskriver nytteverdien slik:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A team of six engineers, under Go Shirogauchi, has been working on the project since 2003 and aims to have the device, which is made of an aluminium alloy, ready to go into practical use by 2015. &#8220;The prime use for the arm will be in disaster zones, where wheeled vehicles are unable to operate but heavy weights need to be moved,&#8221; Shirogauchi said. When completed, the arm will serve as a common platform that will have a wide range of interchangeable parts that can easily be installed.
